Get Rid of Moles

Those mounds ruin your garden and lawn. Trees are dying off, beautiful landscaping torn up, and people are getting hurt tripping over roots. The wrath of a small rodent: the mole. How do you get rid of moles? Some people want them gone at any cost and some may want a more humane approach. It really depends on how you want to do this and if you have a budget in mind. Another important thing to remember is if there will be pets or small children around so that they will not get ensnared into the system that is chosen.

Traps are the most common type of system to use and there are many that can be used in either humane or efficient ways. It is important to know that when getting rid of moles that you have resources available to determine the ultimate results. Some traps require that you first locate the tunnel system by finding the mounds and then digging a hole between them to find the tunnels. When using a simple grasping trap dig a hole that will allow the trap to be fitted into the tunnel path. These grasping traps are the easiest to use and grasp around the mole without cutting it into.

There are other similar ways to trap and get rid of moles that do destroy them. Trap boxes that are placed in the ground the same way as the spring trap and do require digging holes into the tunnel system. Trap boxes can be set up to allow multiple moles to go in, but not come back out. Some boxes merely trap them; others have electric shocking systems to destroy the mole. Some trap boxes have vibration systems that attract the moles and then destroy them with an electric charge. Another version of this is a trap box that has a food lure that is poisoned.

As with all traps, they need to be checked in the morning to make sure that something has been caught. Cleaning, placing new lures, and checking any electrical connections should be done at the same time. If there are no results after several days, move the traps to another tunnel system to get rid of moles. If the mole traps are not getting any results, there are more drastic measures that can be taken, but may not be as humane. Flamethrower like tools, water hoses for drowning and small percussive charges are alternatives. Just keep your safety, sanity, and what damage could occur in mind.
